The owls usually are here until April or thereabouts. Please contact me if you want to come in March, and I will update you, when we get closer to the dates that you want.

Working with wildlife can be hit and miss at times. I do my very best to feed the owls that I am working with. Weather, and other factors do come into play and the owls are just "gone", or not hungry. Sometimes I can find them again, and sometimes I cannot. That does happen, but seldom are they gone for the rest of the winter.

I have only been "skunked" once, and it was with a photographer that drove out for one day at the very beginning of the season. We saw an owl, but I had not had time to habituate it yet, and it would not come in to eat. That is another reason why I like to keep photographers informed, and they take my advice, so that it doesn't happen to them.

Please consider coming for at least four days. More is better, and the reason I say that is there is a better chance of having great light, and no issues with missing owls or really bad weather.

Please contact me and we'll see where you can find a spot.

Remember that I am your guide, and I have small groups. If you bring your own group for a private tour, you can bring as many people as you want. My service only covers guiding you to the snowy owls, and feeding the owls. I do not pickup or drop off anyone at the airport, or drive anyone from your room to the field and back each day. I have group rates and private group rates and you can have 4 days or five days with me, so please contact me for those rates.

So what do you usually get for the price I quoted you:

  • Fully mature snowy owl males, and females.

  • You get to shoot near the vehicles, so if anyone gets cold, they can warm up right away, or change lenses, put away their tripods, and so forth.

  • Wonderful wide open prairie with beautiful clean sunrises, and in some cases, sunsets all the way to the horizon.

  • No interference from the public or other photo groups in the area.

  • You will be photographing mainly the owls that I have been feeding for weeks, so they are used to people, and they do come in close at times.

  • I`ve done the work for you so you don`t need to walk and carry your gear all          over the fields wasting time and energy. All you need to do is be able to shoot and use the light to your advantage.

  • I do not take photos of the birds anymore. I retired from shooting.

So, when you are shopping around for a tour or a workshop with snowy owls, ask your tour operator or workshop provider about those points above, and then compare prices.

You will need to rent a suitable winter ready all wheel drive vehicle, and book into a hotel and cover your own meals. I can suggest a few places to stay that other photographers have used.

If this is something that you would like to do, then please contact me, and we shall get you booked into the dates that you want. Once I receive your wire transfer, etransfer, or cheque, I will send you a list of places to stay, and what type of clothing to use in cold weather photography.

REFUND POLICY:

I do not give refunds, unless I cannot physically do your tour. People that hunt, fish, and do wildlife photography know that some days you don't get anything. As mentioned earlier, birds move around, as does all wildlife, so that is why I suggest taking more days than less days.

Take care, and I hope that we will meet up in the field with the snowies this winter,

Frank in Saskatoon
